The ABCC and Local Licensing Authorities have increased the scrutiny on how off-premises retailers of beer, wine & spirits operate their businesses. There are several reasons for the high burden placed upon local stores. One is a heightened awareness and urgency to eliminate illegal sales and to keep alcohol out of the hands of underage persons. Another is to safely raise revenues for the state through orderly regulation. The result is that retailers who fail to follow outlined procedures and regulations will face severe criminal and civil penalties.
